Gravity Casting

Process principle and flow:

1. Mold preparation: Using heat-resistant materials to manufacture split metal molds, the cavity is precision machined, polished, or sprayed with special coatings.

2. Preheating and coating: Preheat the mold to 150-350 ℃ and spray refractory coating to form an insulation and lubrication layer.

3. Clamping: Place the core into the lower mold, close the mold, and lock it with hydraulic/mechanical force.

4. Gravity casting: Molten metal is smoothly filled into the mold cavity through the pouring cup by gravity.

5. Solidification opening: Control the cooling time and open the mold after the casting solidifies.

6. Top out retrieval: The top rod mechanism pushes out the casting and, if necessary, cooperates with a robotic arm to retrieve the parts.

7. Post treatment: Remove sprues and burrs, perform heat treatment, shot blasting, and machining.

Advantages:

1. Organizational density and mechanical properties:

-Metal molds have strong quenching effect, fast solidification speed, and refined grain size;   

-There is no need for sand mold breathability, and the flowability of the metal liquid is excellent;   

-The casting has less porosity and shrinkage, and its strength, elongation, and fatigue performance are close to those of forgings.

2. Dimensional accuracy and surface smoothness:

-Rigid metal molds are non deformable, non yielding, and have stable tolerances;   

-The surface smoothness of the mold cavity is high, the casting contour is clear like a "metal replica", and the machining allowance is small.

3. Production and automation integration:

-Single mode cycling is fast, with a lifespan of tens of thousands to hundreds of thousands of times;   

-Easy to achieve full automation of mold closing, pouring, and component extraction, suitable for large-scale assembly lines.

4. Economy:

-No cost of molding sand, zero processing of old sand;   

-Reduce processing hours by 30% -50%, with material utilization rate greater than 85%;   

-Although the cost of molds is high, the advantage of single piece cost is obvious after batch allocation.

5. Consistency:

-The process parameters are highly controllable, and the product volatility is much lower than that of sand casting.
